Post Race Update
I grabbed the wrist band from Brian after he flew in in second overall after the bike and then took off to meet Graham and our trusty canoe. After hopping in, we headed out down the river. After a few turns, we could see the Barron's fellas on a longer straightaway, which provided some inspiration. Seeing all the people along the shore and on the bridges was great motivation as well.

Other than a couple glimpses of Barron's we didn't see anyone on our leg, which I think hurt us a bit, it would have been nice to push against someone. That said, Graham and I were pretty cashed out by the time we hit the beach. Our 18 miles section was capped with me struggling to run with my right leg asleep - I think if Gumby tried to run, that's what he'd look like. Mark came down soon after and bailed me out, I gave him my precious blue cotton ring, and he tore off to crush the mountain bike leg.

All in all, it was an awesome event and our team was fantastic. I'd love to do it again!

Cause
I am racing for the St. Paul's Hospital Foundation. I have volunteered at St. Paul's, located in downtown Vancouver, for the past year and a half, and I can honestly say that it is one of the most unique and diverse hospitals I have ever seen, with everyone who works there dedicated to the well-being of their patients. Recently there has been much talk in the city about closing the hospital. I would like to underscore the enormous importance of St. Paul's to the community and draw attention to its current situation.
History
I am 25 years old, and have been actively involved in the flatwater sprint canoe racing for the better part of 15 years, for the last ten as a coach as well. A ten-time National Champion with multiple other Nationals medals, I also represented Canada as a member of the  Junior World Sprint Canoe Championship team. Beyond sprint, I am currently training with the False Creek Men's Dragonboat Team.
Right now I am working at completing my Master's in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at Simon Fraser University. Come this fall I will be returning home to Halifax, Nova Scotia to start med school at Dalhousie University. Spare time not paddling is spent dominating at 1988 Radio Shack Electronic Hockey.

This will be my first Ski To Sea race, and I can't wait!
