I'm racing to raise awareness for the American Stroke Association and adaptive programs and tools to help stroke survivors.   My girl friend had a stoke 21 years ago, at age of 7, and we are finding countless challenges to finding adaptive programs, hardware and resources to allow her engage and participate in active sports like cycling, running, skiing, kayaking...you name it.    Insurance doesn't cover expensive adaptive modalities needed for her to effectively hold onto a handle bar or ski pole or kayak paddle.

  This will be my 14 th Ski to Sea (or somewhere around 14).   My first Ski to Sea was in 1987 or 88 and have done it for numerous teams at all levels.   I've competed in the road bike, canoe and downhill ski legs and have won Whatcom County division 3 times, taken 3 rd overall twice (including taking 3 rd overall and 1 st Whatcom County in 2005), won the High School division and raced several times for non-competitive teams.    I've raced at the   World Cup level in Cross Country Mountain Bike, am a Category 2 road bike racer and cycling coach and also coach the Mt. Baker Alpine Ski Team.   I'd love to be on a team that wins the overall crown at the Ski to Sea...maybe this year???
